Workshop Title: Networking Technologies on Cloud

  1. Rationale and Coverage

 

Networking technologies on cloud is a new way of integrating science and technology as compared to the traditional ones. It focuses on the infrastructures of the data center, mainly, QoS protocols to transmitting big data in intracloud and interclouds, information security and privacy in mobile cloud applications. Networking technologies have become the key to affecting the cloud service’s performance.

The modern data center is the core module in cloud to provide unlimited computing and storage resources. In order to satisfy the Virtual machines (VMs) migration and consolidation with composite distributed computing and scheduling, data center network (DCN), which is the infrastructure of cloud, has become increasingly large. Therefore, it needs efficient network topology and high fault tolerant networking protocols to satisfy the various cloud computing requirements, such as energy-efficiency, low latency and loss rate.

As an extension of cloud, the Internet of Things (IoT) is made up of great number of sensors and actor. Big data are generated from various types of sensors and transmitted to the cloud‘s central unit. The control commands are then transmitted to each actor, which becomes the closed-loop control. All of the units in IoT are connected with distributed and self-organized network and information are exchanged with QoS protocols between intracloud and interclouds.

Mobile cloud (MC), as one of novel clouds gathering with the mobile applications and cloud computing, brings new types of services and facilities for mobile users. It completely amends people’s way of consumption and living. Ubiquitous wireless communication, network access management, information security and privacy are all the supporting technologies to reach MC.

To ensure success of the applications under challenges from cloud application, many issues such as scalable topology and smart communication protocols in data center network, low energy consumption, anomaly detection method for IoT, and the security transmission for mobile cloud remains to be solved. This workshop seeks papers describing novel research and development in the field of networking technologies on cloud. During this session, researchers will be able to exchange their state-of-the-art research experiences and ideas interactively. We invite original contributions on different topics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Network infrastructure over data center networks, IoT and mobile cloud

  • Cloud services delivery models, “last mile” access technologies

  • QoS communication protocols over cloud-based network

  • Big data analysis and data mining over cloud-based network

  • Data Flow management and scheduling over cloud-based network

  • Information security, privacy and trust in IoT and Mobile cloud

  • Cloud-based mobile networks and multimedia applications

  • Green networking technologies over cloud

  • Operational, economic and business models of cloud-based network
